What Is Caramel Custard?

Caramel Custard is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. Here is a recipe you can follow to make your own delicious caramel custard:

Ingredients:

•1 cup granulated sugar

•1/2 cup water

•2 cups whole milk

•4 large eggs

•1/2 cup granulated sugar

•1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Step 2

In a small saucepan, combine the 1 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved, increase the heat to high and let the mixture boil without stirring until it turns a deep amber color.

Step 3

Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch baking dish, swirling it around to coat the bottom and sides of the dish.

Step 4

In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until just simmering.

Step 5

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Step 6

Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.

Step 7

Pour the custard mixture into the caramel-coated baking dish.

Step 8

Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan and pour hot water into the roasting pan until it comes about halfway up the sides of the baking dish.

Step 9

Carefully transfer the roasting pan to the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

Step 10

Remove the baking dish from the roasting pan and let it cool to room temperature.

Step 11

Once cooled, cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.

Step 12

To serve, run a knife around the edge of the custard to loosen it from the baking dish, then invert the custard onto a serving platter. The caramel will drizzle over the top and sides of the custard. Slice and serve. Enjoy!
